Google は 2020 年 10 月 1 日の新製品発表イベント「Launch Night In」にて、新しいテレビプラットフォーム「Google TV」と、その「Google TV」対応新世代ストリーミングデバイス「Chromecast with Google TV」を正式発表し、米国にて早速「Google TV」の提供を開始しましたが、これまで「Google Play ムービー & TV」として提供してきた動画コンテンツアプリを、新たに「Google TV」アプリとして提供開始しました。
とはいえ、「Google Play ムービー & TV」アプリから「Google TV」アプリへの刷新は、まずは米国での提供です。またまずは Android 版「Google Play ムービー & TV」アプリからの「Google TV」アプリ刷新となります。

日本国内では「Google TV」が提供されていないため、まだ「Google Play ムービー & TV」のままで提供されています。
「Google TV」アプリでは、「YouTube」や「YouTube TV」などだけでなく、「Netflix」「Disney+」などのストリーミングサービスのおすすめコンテンツを、「Google TV」アプリ内で管理することができます。もちろん「Google Play ムービー & TV」で提供されてきた動画コンテンツも、そのまま楽しむことができます。
「Google TV」対応の新世代ストリーミングデバイス「Chromecast with Google TV」は。今後日本でも発売される予定なので、そのうち日本でも「Google Play ムービー & TV」アプリは「Google TV」へと刷新されるのでしょう。
